TESCO Community Champion, Mary Gill presented a £1500 cheque to the 1st place winners of the  Tesco community grants scheme.

The Redditch and Bromsgrove Sea Cadets received the cheque to spend towards new equipment.

Tesco Community Grants fund local community projects across the UK, helping to fight holiday hunger, tackle mental health, support young people, host community events and much more.

The community grants scheme is open to community groups and projects and is available to them to apply via tescocommunitygrants.org.uk

If successful they then get put into the voting booth in store.

Everytime someone goes shopping the customer gets a blue token to use to vote for one of the three local projects that we have in this quarter.

The award for 1st place is £1500, 2nd place is £1000 and 3rd place is £500.

Mary said: “The community champion job role allows me to help the local community with different projects in the name of Tesco.

“The sea cadets placed 1st and plan to use the money to buy new computer equipment to help the cadets to gain qualifications, update the mess hall so that the cadets have somewhere to be able to relax and modernise the classrooms with new tables and chairs and carpet.”
