ST BEDE’S Year 6 pupil Josie James and friends is aiming to make a splash with a fundraising event for the British Ukrainian Aid Charity.

On April 11, Josie and five friends from the City of Birmingham Swimming Squad will be swimming 21 miles non-stop, the equivalent of the English Channel crossing at Tudor Grange swimming pool in Solihull.

This will be a continuous swim and will involve Josie and friends swimming for several hours.

So far they have raised more than £700 without dipping a toe in the water and hope to smash the £1,000 barrier by the time they complete the challenge.

Lloyd Roberts, Principal of St Bede’s Middle School said: “We are delighted that Josie has chosen to act in a positive way to support the people of Ukraine.

“We commend her unusual and innovative way of raising money and awareness of the war.

“Josie has the school community behind her and we’ll be sure to include her and her friends in our prayers, along with our prayers for peace in Eastern Europe.”
