Ambulance mercy mission as duo get on the road for Ukraine

Redditch Editorial 9th Apr, 2022   0

TWO former NHS ambulances set off from South Warwickshire on a 2,100km trip to Poland on Wednesday, April 6, after they were donated to Ambulance Aid to help the relief effort in Ukraine.

Ambulance Aid delivers medical supplies to the areas they’re needed most by asking volunteers to drive them there using de-commissioned NHS ambulances.

The ambulances were donated by Alf Rajkowski, a retired property developer and his friend Mark Pritchard-Jeffs.

Alf and Mark are travelling with co drivers Bogdan Letkowski and Richard Timmis were expected to arrive on Thursday evening.

The two vehicles will be given to the Polish ambulance service to be taken across the border with Ukraine before the team fly home.

The co-ordinator of Medical Aid Ukraine in the West Midlands, Tania Hebert, has been leading a team of volunteers who have stocked up the ambulances with donated medical supplies including an ECG machine and patient beds.

The charity is looking to do more fund-raising and have raised more than £15,000 on JustGiving in a week for a third ambulance.
