£180,000 parking upgrade scheme completed in Redditch closes

AFTER several months of work, improvements to parking in Woodrow and Matchborough have been completed.

The work in Grendon, Eathorpe, Frankton and Ombersley Closes has created new, much-needed parking spaces, improved old parking spaces, and substantially cleaned up the area.

Tree planting is also scheduled for the autumn/winter to enhance the surroundings.

Altogether works in these four closes cost approximately £180,000 and were delivered by the council’s contractor Kelbec.

Work began before Christmas and was completed in March as part of a borough public realm scheme that has been bringing residents across the town significantly improved parking since 2009, in projects ranging from £10,000 to £150,000.

Environmental Services Head of Service, Guy Revans, said: “We are carrying out parking improvements on our estates every year as we know parking is key for so many residents.

“This was a particularly big part of this ongoing scheme and has impacted a large number of residents. It’s been weeks in the making but we thank residents for their patience while this work took place and hope they are enjoying the benefits of the improvements now that it is finished.”

The next closes which will see this kind of improvement include Haseley and Illmington Close which are scheduled for this new financial year.

Under the scheme the borough council transforms pockets of older infrastructure in consultation with residents, turning under-used garage complexes or difficult or ageing areas into cleaner, safer spaces that are a better fit for people’s needs today.

Sites are prioritised for the works according to their assessed need.
