A NEW ‘walkers cafe’ is to open at St Leonard’s Church in Beoley on occasional Saturday mornings.
It’s to cater for the needs of any or all of the visitors who pass through or nearby the church and its grounds on a Saturday morning.
There are many people who come to visit graves or who simply want to have a stroll or a more serious walk into the surrounding countryside.
The church is also on the Roman Road of Icknield Street which is popular for cycling.
So as an experiment and for the next few months the church will open a cafe so passersby can drop in for refreshment.
These will be served from the Tapestry Room at the rear of the church and whilst enjoying their refreshments visitors will be free to look around the church buildings and grounds and if they are interested hear more about the history of this 12th century building.
Opening day is Saturday, April 30 from 10am to 1pm and it is hoped if the idea proves to be a success it will become a regular feature.
Following this this next opening day will be May 14.
