Police appealing for information on St Stephens Church garden fire

Redditch Editorial 22nd Apr, 2022   0

VANDALS gained access a small garden at Redditch’s St Stephen’s Church, burning and uprooting trees and damaging several plants.

It happened overnight between Tuesday and Wednesday.

Church wardens called St Stephen’s tower captain Jenny Freeman on Wednesday morning after they smelt smoke in the church.

No-one connected with the church saw what happened.

The garden has been tended to by children aged between three and 11 since last summer.

The plot had been a way for the children to see where their food came from, as well as being a way for them to connect with nature and learn about gardening.

West Mercia Police confirmed they were currently investigating the incident and urged witnesses or anyone with information to call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
