Funding boost to improve women and girls safety

Redditch Editorial 13th Aug, 2022   0

A FUNDING boost of £400,000 from the Government’s Safer Streets Fund has been welcomed by Redditch MP Rachel Maclean.

This follows a successful bid by the Police and Crime Commissioner for West Mercia John Campion.

The funding will be used to increase the number of StreetWatch schemes, provide a digital platform for volunteers to support victims, run an education programmes for partners working in the night time economy and schools and colleges focused on healthy relationships and raise awareness in communities.

Mrs Maclean said: “From my time as a Minister in the Home Office, I know that improving the safety of women and girls is a top priority for the Government.

“It’s vitally important women and girls should feel free to live their lives in peace without being assaulted or harassed on the streets, going to work, to study or going out with their friends.

“I’m looking forward to discussing this further with John Campion when he will be in Redditch very soon.”
