Redditch residents join country in mourning death of Queen Elizabeth II

RESIDENTS across Redditch and Alcester have joined millions across the world in mourning the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

Tributes have been paid, floral tributes laid, flags are flying at half mast and books of condolence have been opened as people reflect on the passing of the only monarch the vast majority will have known in their lifetime.

During the period of mourning, ahead of The Queen’s state funeral, councils and other organisations have been marking her extraordinary reign, while also providing residents with the chance to pay their respects to Britain’s longest serving monarch.

Church services to remember The Queen will take place over the weekend.

A book of condolence for residents to pay their respects and show their love and support for the Royal Family is available to sign at Redditch Town Hall from 9am to 5pm.

Redditch Crematorium’s Chapel, Floral Hall, and Book Room was also opened for a special hour on Saturday and Sunday last weekend for those wanting to share a moment of calm reflection together.

Union Flags will be at half-mast until the morning after the funeral.

And people have been leaving floral tributes at the bandstand in Church Green, where the town’s Accession Proclamation of King Charles III also took place on Sunday.

On Monday, September 19, The Queen’s funeral will be streamed live at Redditch Town Hall.

The ceremony is due to take place at 11am and the building will be open from 9am to 5pm for people to sign the book of condolence.

Everyone is welcome to the screening which has primarily been organised for those who are alone and want to watch the historic occasion with others.
