THE BURST water mains which had left some Redditch residents without a supply for more than 20 hours has now been repaired.
Severn Trent said it was confident that people’s water supplies should now be running again but warned some may experience low pressure. This, added the provider, should return to normal over the next two hours.
“Thank you for continued patience whilst our teams worked hard to get your supplies restored, we really do understand how much of an impact this may have had.”
Earlier today, after engineers discovered the repair was more trickier than first thought and would take longer, two stations were set up, providing free bottled water to those who needed it – at Tesco Extra in Coldfield Drive and B&Q in Jinnah Road.
Bottled water was also delivered to vulnerable customers and the water stations were ran by Severn Trent employees who have volunteered on their day off to help.
Severn Trent added: “We can’t apologise enough to everyone affected by the issue overnight and into this morning.
“We are extremely thankful for all our customers patience.”
The incident happened around 8pm last night and at first Severn Trent was confident it would all be sorted by 11pm.
Hundreds of homes were affected in the B98, B97, B96, B80, B49 and B48 areas with people having either no water supply at all or low water pressure.
Three schools – St Thomas More Catholic First School, The Beacon Primary and Woodrow First School – were also unable to open as they had no water supply. Instead, the children had home learning sessions throughout the day.
