Postcards bring back the past in Redditch History Society

Redditch Editorial 4th Oct, 2022   0

LOCAL philatelist Chris Jackson will be giving a presentation taking a trip through the town using old postcards as part of a Redditch History Society special event.

The event will get under way at 2pm at the Oasis Christian Centre on Monday, October 10.

Chris has previously created this presentation using 35mm slides, but the postcards have now been scanned and digitised to improve the quality and make them more accessible.

The presentation has now increased from under 70 to over 100 postcards.

Chris specialises in the Postal History and Postcards of the town and county, having collated a substantial collection over many years, many of which are very rare.

A spokesperson said the event was a ‘great opportunity to see a unique presentation related to the history of the town over the past 100 years and more.’

The presentation acts as a tour of the town, starting at ‘Granny Locke’s’ which, although demolished, was the toll house of the Pershore Road on the A441 at Bordesley Corner.

The tour continues to ‘The Royal Oak’ and then a few hundred yards further on to the end of Crabbs Cross.
