Redditch Editorial 28th Oct, 2022   0

REDDITCH celebrated Black History Month with several events across the borough.

Redditch Library held a free screening of the film, ‘Two And A Half Questions’, about the experiences of the Windrush generation and their descendants.

Guests were able to meet the filmmakers and look through their collection of archives and artefacts.

Redditch United Football Club also sat down with top goalscorer, Bernard Mensah, to get to know him a bit more, discussing his childhood, diversity and inclusion and his advice for young aspiring footballers today.

Borough Mayor Councillor Ann Isherwood reflected on the twinning of Redditch with Jamaica.

She said: “As the Mayor of Redditch, I am passionate about celebrating the diversity of our town.

“I could not let Black History Month pass me by without investigating further some of our local history.

“Although, I have never met her personally, former Redditch Mayor Madge Tillesley MBE is a stalwart of the town and is always recognised as such.

“Black History Month is a great reminder for us all to acknowledge the importance of contributions from African, Caribbean, Asian and other ethnic minority communities.”
