Redditch volunteers save over 1,000 borough trees

A GROUP of volunteers dedicated to saving woodland trees is calling for communities to get in touch if they need help.

Friends of Papermill Drive saved 1,300 Redditch saplings from being bulldozed, by distributing the trees throughout the county.

Group volunteer Andy Clossick has been hugely instrumental in keeping the saplings alive during the long summer drought by providing nutrition and regular watering.

“This project shows there is great potential for replanting saplings from development sites and I hope others follow this project,” he said.

Extinction Rebellion also took 90 trees to give away from their Bromsgrove market stall.

Bromsgrove volunteer Graham Bouchard urged anyone needing help from the group to email [email protected] or visit facebook.com/groups/ourclimateconversation for more.

He added: “Remember every sapling saved cuts the carbon being emitted and may help save the planet for our children and grandchildren.”
