A REDDITCH foodbank has received £250 worth of items from Tesco Extra to help people in the run up to Christmas.
Friends of Isaac’s Food Bank was set up during the pandemic by 11-year-old Isaac Winfield and his mum Claire with the simple premise of people donating what you could and recipients taking what you need.
The foodbank has been well-used and loved by others in the neighbourhood and what started out as a chest in Isaac’s garden has grown into three sheds and a Facebook group.
The Redditch Tesco store first learned about the food bank when stock and admin manager Jason Harris noticed Isaac’s parents on the shopfloor purchasing several items in bulk.
Jason now has a good relationship with the family, whose foodbank supports over 50 families weekly.
He said: “We have become very familiar with Isaac’s parents and have seen the incredible work the food bank does to support our community.
“The food bank is located close to our store and after having conversations with Isaac’s parents, Claire and Simon, the generosity of the whole family really hit home.
“After finally meeting Isaac in person, we can truly say what a fantastic little chap he is and how hard he is working to help others in his local area.”
The store will continue to support Isaac and his foodbank throughout the new year and look forward to Isaac and his parents joining them in launching Tesco’s Winter Food Collection this month.
Nathan Dowding, Redditch Extra store manager, said: “Friends of Isaac’s Food Bank is a fantastic example of generosity and kindness.
“It’s amazing to see how the foodbank has grown in just two years, and we hope the donation will continue to help Isaac and his family support those who need it the most.”
Isaac’s mum Claire said: “I am totally humbled and proud of how Isaac has supported his community over the last two years and so massively grateful to everyone who had supported his project.
“For a young man to have the idea to ‘give people free food at our house’ to what we have today has just been incredible.”
