Plaque commemorating Queens Platinum Jubilee has been stolen

Redditch Editorial 3rd Jan, 2023   0

A PLAQUE that was installed to commemorate the Queens Platinum Jubilee has been stolen.

Redditch Lions bought and planted two Prunus Kanzan flowering cherry trees in Arrow Valley Park last June.

The trees and commemorative plaque are by the main pathway between the visitors centre and the sailing club.

The plaque was stolen over the Christmas break and left members of the Lions Club shocked.

Bill Southworth Secretary Redditch Lions Club said: “When we originally came up with the concept of planting the two cherry trees and placing a plaque in front of them we specifically chose wood to deter thieves.

“Obviously we were wrong in thinking that.

“Of course all the Lions were deeply upset by the incident.”

The Lions ask that the plaque be returned to its spot by the trees, with no questions asked.

Bill added: “A Redditch craftsman made a wooden plaque and donated his time and materials.

“The wooden plaque was placed in front of the two cherry trees to inform passers-by of their importance and honour the Queens Jubilee from the citizens of Redditch.

“It’s frustrating that this incident has happened, but we hope that whoever ‘borrowed’ the plaque returns it as soon as possible.”
