BATCHLEY residents will have until January 29 to give their views to the council on proposed new parking areas off Hawthorn Road.
Those living there as well as Foxydiate Crescent and Rowan Crescent will be able to give their opinions on proposals to remove minor landscaping and green space to make way for 18 new parking bays.
The councils aim to create new car parking spaces in the area, with new railings and solar-powered, energy-efficient lighting also set to be installed.
Residents affected by the proposed works would be able to tell the council if they were happy to lose open space for parking, as well as whether these changes would bring enough additional parking for their needs.
This will be part of a scheme in which the borough council consults with residents to transform pockets of older infrastructure such as under-used garage complexes or difficult or ageing areas into cleaner, safer spaces that better fit people’s needs today.
Sites are prioritised for the works according to their assessed need.
The council’s environmental services portfolio holder, Coun Peter Fleming, said: “We are carrying out improvement works on our estates every year, as we know parking is key for so many residents.
“There are areas of our town where parking amenities are no longer fit for purpose for modern day life and we aim to continue unlocking the potential of these areas to make life better for our residents.”
