Redditch Self Defence director urges businesses to install bleed kits

PETE Martin director of Redditch-based of the Self Defence and Youth Engagement Partnership is taking a new approach to tackling crime – and especially knife crime – which has been at the forefront of his work for more than 10 years.

He is purchasing and distributing bleed kits throughout the community.

Pete said: “I’m impatient and don’t want to wait around for legislation changes.

“These kits could help save lives, and I urge any businesses to buy a kit.”

The kits are endorsed by West Midland Ambulance Service, and are used by the public in the case of a stabbing.

The Control The Bleed kit locations are also stored in a national database and accessed by 999 phone operators.

Each Kit will be registered with the location.

The caller will be told which kit is nearest their location for fastest collection to provide vital aid by preventing blood loss.

The contents are easy to use and designed to be able to be used by the general public.

Pete added: “When I deliver them I will explain the contents to the receiving person and give them basic training on the use.

“I am also in discussions with West Mercia Police and our MP about a plan for 2023 that is more aimed at education and tougher measures on offenders and I have been consulting with the public on this.

“We have support from Councilors, RBC, West Mercia, schools and the public, together we can make a difference.”
