THE OPEN day to showcase Redditch’s new-look Abbey Stadium Sports Centre gym pulled in the crowds on Saturday.
People flocked to the venue to see it after its £250,000 revamp.
The funding, through a commercial finance agreement, paid for a substantial refurbishment and brand new fitness equipment from world-leading suppliers.
The refurbishment of the centre, owned by Redditch Borough Council and run by Rubicon Leisure, took place during December so it would be ready to welcome customers in the new year when people traditionally strive to become fitter and healthier.
The work followed an extensive customer survey last year which overwhelmingly highlighted that users’ biggest disappointment was the popular Sports Centre’s ‘tired looking’ gym and fitness equipment.
Scott Brinkworth, the Abbey Stadium Sports Centre’s general manager, said: “The day was a huge success with over 15 classes and more than 400 people getting active in just four hours.”
