Studley care home opens doors to community to offer safe space this winter

Redditch Editorial 27th Jan, 2023   0

A STUDLEY care home is offering a warm space for the elderly to escape the cold and socialise this winter across its 13 homes.

Studley Rose is opening its doors to the community, along with Macc Care’s 12 others, to offer a warm space and lunch every Wednesday throughout January and February.

From 11am to 3pm, the homes are welcoming those seeking warmth, a hot drink and something to eat during the colder months.

Places are limited and are allocated on a first come first served basis but bosses say they will do their best to cater for anyone in need over the winter period.

Data from the Pension Policy Institute shows pensioners are among those hardest hit by the rising cost-of-living as the fixed income did not increase in line with the prices of necessities such as housing and energy.

This has led to pensioners having to spend a larger portion of their income on these essentials, leaving less for transportation and leisure activities, resulting in increased isolation and loneliness.

Sharen Guise, director of operations for Macc Care, said: “For some, winter can be a cold and lonely period.

“We’d hate to see anyone suffer, so we’re urging anyone who might be alone and looking for a safe space to come, socialise and enjoy some lunch at one of our homes.

“Some elderly people can go days without seeing anybody else so welcoming them into a warm space gives them a chance to meet and chat with others in a similar position.”
