Redditch school students visit sheltered housing residents to give back to community

A REDDITCH school has launched a project with a sheltered housing scheme to give back to the community.

St Augustine’s Catholic High School sixth-form pupils visited residents of St David’s House and Queen’s Cottages on a weekly basis.

Together with several lower school students, they spend Wednesday afternoons playing bingo, planting bulbs and reading with the residents.

A school spokesperson said: “The bond between young and old has grown strong over the last few months and it has been lovely to invite them to the school for events such as Remembrance Day and the Christmas Party.

“Rhizina Shearer, school Governor and Coun Craig Warhurst have championed this project with our school leaders – Julia Orzol, Danny O’Donnell and Daniel Mundackal.

“We hope that it is the start of a long and meaningful relationship between the school and St David’s.”
