A FORMER Mayor of Redditch and borough councillor and ‘special man’ was laid to rest at a packed Redditch Crematorium yesterday.
Coun Gareth Prosser’s family and friends were in attendance to pay their last respects, as were many of his colleagues.
The congregation was flowing out of the door, as so many people came to pay tribute to him.
Gareth leaves behind his wife, Lynn, his daughter, Victoria and his two granddaughters who called him ‘Bamps’.
Flowers accompanying the coffin included the affectionate name, alongside his police hat and the West Mercia Police flag.
His daughter, Victoria Khawaja said: “We have lost a truly wonderful man who meant so much to so many.
“He was a loving husband of nearly 40 years, whose wicked sense of humour brought laughter even in life’s dark days.
“A supportive father-in-law, he was so keen to share his love of football with someone in a family full of girls.
“A proud dad, who never failed to offer love and guidance, not to mention a fitting pun for any occasion.
“And a devoted Bamps to his precious granddaughters – ‘the best dolly player in the world’ – a title he was so very proud of.”
The funeral procession entered the crematorium with a police escort, and the hearse was accompanied by serving police officers.
Victoria added: “He was a much-admired and well-respected colleague, boss and friend to those he met throughout his dedicated service in the police force, council and as Mayor.
“How privileged we all are to have had this special man play such an important part in our lives.”
