AN ALCESTER businesswoman has made the final of the Ladies First Professional developments awards, a ceremony honouring ladies in the Warwickshire and wider areas.
Sarah Day, the creative director of One Day Film Productions, has been nominated for Unique Business of the Year.
The company offers video services for couples getting married, newborn baby keepsake videos and commercial branding videos.
Sarah used to work for her family business, Johnsons Coaches but turned to her passion of creating keepsake films during maternity leave and the business has escalated from there.
She said: “At the moment it’s just me, editing in my little home-office but my goal is to become one of the leading wedding videographers in the country and to eventually have a team working with me.
“I believe the business is unique because I create unique stories with my videos, whether that’s for a wedding or at the opposite end of the spectrum, for corporate work.
“I try and find the story in everything I do, I will never be just a ‘turn up on the day’ kind of person – I prefer to spend time with my clients, to really understand them so that they end up with amazing results.
“I always say the more that we get to know each other, the better I can tell your story and the more comfortable you are with me filming on the day.”
Getting her business up and running proved a challenge, but making the final of the awards has helped her confidence.
“Being in the video game is expensive because of all the kit you need, but to get to where I want to be involves investment in continual learning and upskilling.
“It comes with lots of ups and down and sometimes it can be difficult to stay positive and have that self belief that the future you dream of is possible.
“Winning would give me a huge sense of achievement, knowing I am on the right path and that this is not just a dream but a job I have created and am doing all on my own.”
The award ceremony takes place on March 23 at Coombe Abbey.
