A REDDITCH man is joining his colleagues taking on the ultimate challenge of cycling 750 mile to raise money for a veteran’s mental health charity.
In 2013 a team of Corps Security colleagues cycled from Stevenage Glasgow in seven days, raising over £5,000 for the Royal Marines Charitable Trust Fund.
Ten years later the same team will be cycling the same route, only reversed.
The challenge is the brain child of Rob Hill from Hunt End.
He said: “We were brainstorming fundraising ideas and eventually landed on cycling.
“I decided instead of picking a random distance, to cycle from Stevenage to Glasgow via our 12 offices.
“It is a bit daunting but we’ve got other members of staff joining the cycling local to their offices.
“The first ride was a huge success and we’ll be setting off exactly 10 years to the day.”
The riders will come through Redditch after passing through the Birmingham office on April 26.
The team will cover 1200 km (750 miles), beginning in Glasgow and visiting all Corps Security mainland offices en route to its headquarters in London.
The route will involve nearly 10,000m of climbing as it winds through the Lake District, the Yorkshire Dales, and the Brecon Beacons over seven arduous days.
This year the team will be raising funds Combat Stress, they provide mental health support to veterans from every service and every conflict.
Rob added: “The company was originally set up in the 1800s to help support veteran causes, so it has always been a part of our ethos.
“Training started at the end of last year and has been difficult.
“Our target is £5,000 but we hope to smash it and raise as much money as we can.”
Andy Topp, sales and marketing director at Corps Security said: “Every penny we raise will make a difference to veterans, their families and loved ones, helping them to reintegrate into society following their service to our country. From everyone at Corps Security, we thank you for your support.”
