Over £800,000 donated Woodrow Centre youth group

YOUNG people in Redditch are to benefit from over £800,000 of Government funding after a successful bid to the Youth Investment Fund.

The Youth Investment Fund was launched in August 2022, with a call for youth services in the country’s most underserved areas to apply for a slice of a £337 million fund to improve the health, wellbeing, skills, and opportunities for young people.

The Department for Culture, Media and Sport has awarded £816,000 to Bengrove Close site in Woodrow.

Work will start on site in September 2023 and the service should open its doors to young people by April 2024.

Jade Parker from Your Ideas said: “This funding will enable us to provide a renewed building that will offer a sports hall, outdoor ball games area, gardening area, an art room, large kitchen, games and a pool table room.

“It will offer young people a safe, nurturing space in the heart of the community Woodrow.”

Your Ideas plans to offer 10 new youth clubs and services for young people and their families, residents of the local area and the wider community

Redditch MP Rachel Maclean said: “This is levelling up in action. It isn’t just talk; this is real money which will transform the lives of children and young people in Woodrow and across Redditch.

“I know how hard Jordan Cooke and his team worked on this successful bid to secure this huge amount of Government funding. Their efforts were worth it.”

Coun Emma Marshall, coucnillor for Woodrow, said: “I am delighted to see this funding for Your Ideas to expand youth provision in Woodrow.

“I have seen how hard Your ideas work and the Woodrow Centre youth group has already been such a great addition for the area.”

Culture Secretary Lucy Frazer said: “I want every young person to have the opportunity to access the kind of life-changing activities which expand their horizons and allow them to develop vital life skills.

“I’m thrilled to be supporting The Den to help young people across Redditch. This investment will allow The Den to provide more activities and opportunities for young people here in Redditch.”
