Folk rockers ready to launch new album at Huntingdon Hall gig

Redditch Editorial 7th May, 2022   0

AFTER the success of their debut album of original music, ‘Lady of the First Light’, in 2019, The Julie July Band are returning once again to Huntingdon Hall to perform their latest folk-rock album ‘Wonderland’.

The band originally built their substantial reputation with re-interpretations and arrangements of the work of singer-songwriter Sandy Denny and have performed their ‘Sandy Denny Experience Show’ across the UK.

Inspired by Sandy’s work and the wider folk, rock and blues movements of the Sixties and Seventies, ‘Wonderland’ contains 12 songs from dreamy acoustic folk to driving progressive folk rock.

With shared writing duties and excellent musicianship, both lyrically and instrumentally these folks know how to create an atmosphere and they’re clearly gifted storytellers.

Plus, joining them for the evening is their support act and Blues guitarist Kevin Brown.

Kevin was first transported to the Blues universe after watching Muddy Waters on the television in 1964.

Regardless of his Lancashire roots, was going to be a bluesman!

Five years of studious guitar practice later, during a chance meeting while busking in Portobello Road London, Kevin met Son House, the man who inspired Muddy Waters and Robert Johnson.

Son House liked Kevin’s passion and took him under his wing.

He taught him the emotional power of simple words, and how to make a slide guitar howl at the moon. He gave a kid from Lancashire his blues credentials and sent him out to spread the message.

Fourteen albums and thousands of gigs later, Kevin Brown is one the most respected blues guitarists, singers and songwriters on both sides of the Atlantic.

The concert is on Sunday, May 15 at 7.30pm. Tickets are £15 from https://worcestertheatres.co.uk/ or call the box office on 01905 611 427.
