A FREE singing session is being offered by the Bromsgrove and Redditch Rock Choir.

The group is inviting people to see how performing songs in the choir can help beat the winter blues this January.

No audition is needed and the choir has an uplifting ethos of fun, friendship and community spirit.

People from Bromsgrove and Redditch are being offered the chance to experience the natural high created by singing in the choir.

A recent experiment conducted by BBC’s ‘Trust Me I’m a Doctor’ proved that Rock Choir members experienced a dramatic rise of 40 per cent in endocannabinoids, the ‘happy’ chemicals released in the brain, after taking part in a Rock Choir session.

The significant result was compared to just 20 per cent uplift created after taking part in dancing and cycling.

Singing should then have a profound effect on the way our wellbeing and mental health.

The Bromsgrove and Redditch Rock Choir leader said: “My choir members tell me time and time again what a difference joining Rock Choir has made to their wellbeing.

“We offer a multi-layered life-affirming experience which uses music at its core and results in joy and friendship.

“It’s wonderful to see the positive impact that joining Rock Choir has on people’s lives and how it helps them cope with life’s challenges.”

She said she’d love to welcome anyone who had not tried Rock Choir before to go along and give it a go.

The choir had a very busy festive season, performing at the Primrose Hospice’s first ever run at Arrow Valley Lake and a host of other events.

Many members travelled to London’s Hyde Park in September to take part in a special BBC/Rock Choir flashmob at the iconic Proms in the Park. Drawing an audience of 40,000 , it was the largest flashmob ever witnessed in the UK with over 12,500 Rock Choir members from across the UK taking part.

Rock Choir always welcomes new members. There is no audition and no requirement to read music.

People wanting to book the free Get Happy Rock Choir taster session should visit rockchoir.com and type in their postcode to find their nearest location.
