Alvechurch mums who have raised more than £100,000 for charity make final of JustGiving Awards

A GROUP of mums who have raised more than £100,000 for The Tessa Jowell Centres of Excellence for Children have made it through to the final of the 2024 JustGiving Awards in the Team Fundraiser category.

The Angel Mums, who have all lost a child to brain cancer, have made it down to the last 21 in the section.

The group came up with the ‘Earth, Wind and Fire Challenge’.

The campaign began with a hike up Mount Snowdon and next up – for the ‘Wind’ section – is a daring wing walk at Wind at RFC Rendcomb, near Cirencester, a week on Tuesday, July 16.

Then – for the ‘Fire’ part of the challenge – the Angel Mums will undertake a hot coals walk in October.

Last year, the group raised £77,602 from a skydive and they are hoping to raise £100,000 in this year alone (they already have £27,000 towards that total).

One of the Angel Mums is Penny Church, from Alvechurch, who has been raising funds in memory her son Finlay after his brave brain tumour battle.

He was diagnosed in 2014 with glioblastoma multiforme at the age of 10 and, despite surgery and gruelling rounds off chemotherapy, he died just 17 moths later, aged 11.

Penny said: “The Angel Mums are an incredible group of women who are there to support each other as we have all walked the same tragic path.

“Together we can be a united voice to improve funding for treatments and drive change.

“Hopefully in the future, no families will have to go what we have been through.”

The winners of the JustGiving Awards will be decided by public vote and the winners will be announced at an awards ceremony at the iconic Roundhouse in London on September 18.
