MIDLANDS Today weather presenter Beccy Wood and her BBC colleague Richie Anderson will be visiting Worcestershire today as part of their 125-mile trek around the canal network.
The pair are undertaking the ‘Peaky Pentathlon’ for Sports Relief and have been participating in a number of sporting challenges along the way, such as a penalty shoot-out at Stoke City FC, a horse riding challenge, cricket at Edgbaston and kayaking.
Today is Day Five of the challenge which will begin in Brindley Place in Birmingham and Beccy and Richie and the team will be heading south on the waterways, via Kings Norton and Alvechurch, ending up in Vines Park in Droitwich. It is anticipated that could be around 6pm this evening.
Beccy told The Standard she was looking forward to visiting the county, adding she and her fellow participant Richie did not appreciate the difficulty of the 125-mile trek.
“On day one we didn’t finish until gone 3am on Tuesday morning, and I will confess to a few tears at the finish.
“But it’s for a great cause and we are determined to see it through.
“Any donations you can give us will be massively appreciated.
“Sport Relief does great work ,and we are proud to be doing our bit to help.”
On Day Three Beccy sustained tendonitis in her achilles and she and Richie switched from walking to bikes so they could continue the trek. But after punctures put paid to that idea the pair returned to walking.
