A WORCESTER swim teacher has been awarded a local star teacher award due to her patience, understanding and ongoing support when teaching children to swim.
The award is given to an inspirational person who excels in teaching children and babies how to swim.
Emma Downes, a teacher at Puddle Ducks Worcestershire since 2013, was nominated by Mrs Taylor, whose son swims with Emma.
Mrs Taylor said: “Theo has been through a phase of crying whenever he goes into the pool or when the teacher holds him.
“Emma has been so patient with him, taken the time to get to know Theo and build up a lovely relationship with him.
“She has been very understanding and has included him in any way she can. and has spent extra time making him feel more comfortable and encouraging him.
“Recently we have had a big breakthrough, and she has been able to hold him to demonstrate activities, thanks to her patience, understanding and perseverance.”
Sam Harton, the spa and leisure manager at Stratford Manor Hotel chose the winning nomination said it was difficult to choose a winner, but Emma stood out due to the bond between Theo and Emma.
Emma was a swimmer as a child and her children have followed in her footsteps as they swim competitively for Bromsgrove swimming club.
“I absolutely love my job, it’s so rewarding, and is a fun and friendly environment to work in.
“I look forward to coming to work to see my swimmers every day and I’m delighted to have won this award.”
Emma teaches as the Whitehouse Hotel in Worcester, TruGym in Kidderminster, Feckenham Primary School and Wollescote Primary School in Stourbridge.
