DRAMATIC crash scenes were created in Bromsgrove and Worcester to warn young motorists-to-be about the consequences of dangerous driving, writes Lauren Tiller.
Students, including some from North Bromsgrove High and Tudor Grange Academy Redditch, were shown the mock-up scenes which featured live actors realistically transformed by HOW College make-up artistry students.
Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service’s hard-hitting project takes year 11 pupils through road safety workshops a year before they are old enough to learn to drive.
Watch Commander Pete Hope, said: “Too many young drivers are still dying or suffering serious injuries on the county’s roads.”
He added the opportunity was offered to high schools so pupils can learn life lessons and reduce road deaths.
The two-hour workshops were held amid statistics revealing 7,000 people were injured and 92 people died in Worcestershire crashes between 2013 and 2017 where young drivers were behind the wheel.
Road safety team inspector Adrian Davis from West Mercia Police said: “Dying 2 Drive is an impressive and effective series of road safety workshops.”
He added the two organisations involved hoped the sessions would equip soon-to-be young drivers with the vital skills and knowledge they needed to keep them safe on the roads.
