Get you calendars here! Redditch Gymophobics raise £84 to fight cancer

MEMBERS of Gymophobics Redditch are celebrating after raising more than £84,000 for cancer research.

The amazing total has prompted a personal letter of congratulations and thanks from Cancer Research UK and spurred them on to launch their own 2019 fund-raising calendar for the cause.

“We are always looking for ways in which we can raise money for well-deserved charities and we are delighted that our efforts over the years have really made a difference,” said Gymophobics manager Sue Aravanis.

“We have also produced a ‘Through the Times’ calendar that will be available soon, with all proceeds going to Cancer Research UK and Macmillan – just one of many fund-raisers we organise each year.”

The women-only gym, based in Mills Court in Albert Street, was launched on the fund-raising trail 11 years ago by the then-owner Zoe Cooke.

After she left, the big-hearted ladies kept the cash rolling in, organising everything from cake sales to quizzes, amassing a grand total of £84,284.

“Raising money for cancer research is something we’ve just carried on. A lot of the ladies can relate to it and combating cancer is something that is quite close to us all,” said Sue.

Donna Hubbard, founder of Gymophobics, added: “We are very proud of all the hard work our franchises put in to raise money for charity and we are confident it will long continue.”
