DAY case patients at the Alexandra Hospital in Redditch are set to have an improved experience thanks to the opening of a refurbished unit.

The brand new Birch Unit has reopened its day case surgical unit to patients following relocation to the former Ward 15.

The dedicated 16 bed care unit is providing a permanent home for day surgery patients.

It is also houses two dedicated side rooms, which can be offered to patients requiring greater privacy.

It is led by ward managerMichelle Medhurst who said: “This new unit that will provide patients with a better level of care, when visiting the Hospital for day surgery cases.  The new unit is really spacious and we can manage a higher number of cases. In addition, the dedicated side rooms mean we can offer increased privacy to patients. We are really excited to be open again in our new location.”

Jevan Taylor, consultant breast surgeon, was instrumental in the plan to bring the unit to fruition. He said: “We are pleased that this plan has come together.  It has been a real team effort and I am delighted to welcome patients.”
