MOTORSPORT fans should ‘expect the unexpected’ when the Chateau Impney Hill Climb returns on July 7 and 8, bigger than ever before.

This year’s event, now in its fourth year, was officially launched yesterday and will even include a Guinness World Record attempt.

Offering the ‘thrill of motorsport combined with the pleasure of a summer garden party’, the Hill Climb sees more than 200 pre-1967 cars tackling the challenging 885-metre course and exotic cars and bikes from every era will be performing demonstration runs.

Up to 100 supercars will be on display with 500 cars in the classic car park.

The ‘Best of British’ will be celebrated by the Footman James Concours d’Elengance with marquees dedicated to Aston Martin, Jaguar, Morgan, Rolls Royce and more.

Families can join in with various actives and can enjoy 30 trade stalls and 25 food and drink vendours.

During the weekend, multiple Guinness World Record holding stuntman, Alastair Moffatt, will attempt to break the record for the fastest time to complete eight ‘figure of eights’ between two parked cars.

He already holds such records as the world’s tightest parallel park, squeezing into a space just 7.5cm bigger than the car.

He said it would be a privilege to be at the event which is expected to attract more than 18,000 visitors.

“I will be driving an Abarth 124 Spider, and the figures of eight will be driven around two Abarth 595s, these cars are ideally suited for the world record attempt due to their power and agility.

“I don’t want to jump the Grand Canyon in a car, I want to utilise my skill set in a car that will look spectacular on the day.

“It is a record everybody can relate to but I’ll be doing it to the absolute extreme.”

He said he had been interested in motorsport since he was four and ‘had his dream job’.

“I always watched the Hill Climb since it started and it is fantastic motor fans have resurrected this amazing event.”

Alastair will also attempt to drive the Abarth 595 sideways on two wheels up the hill – something only a handful of people in the World can do.

Rod Spollen, managing director of the Greyfort Group which owns the Chateau Impney, said visitors could ‘expect the unexpected’.

“Our event is a real eclectic mix of everything, it is a mix of the past, present and future.”
