New-look council announces three priorities for Redditch

Redditch Editorial 5th Jun, 2024   0

THE LEADERSHIP of the new-look Redditch Council has announced its top three priorities for the borough after taking over the chamber.

The 21-strong Labour councillor group has pledged to put an end to the demolition of the library building and maintain the service exactly where it is.

Officers and members will produce an alternative plan for the Town Hall, and investigate changes to the Town Deal project funding.

They will also create a regular council-run outdoor market with stalls which they hope to increase footfall and support the town centre economy.

They are implementing a cost reduction to the Dial a Ride journeys from August, aiming to support elderly and vulnerable residents who are unable to use public transport.

Coun Joe Baker, leader of Redditch Borough Council, said: “This is just the beginning of the ‘fresh start’ we have promised to Redditch.

“We have listened to you on the doorstep, won a huge mandate for change, and now we are eager to get started on our manifesto priorities.

“We have lots of work to do and there is more good news to come. You have put your trust in us, and we will keep our promises to you.”

The Labour Group took a massive 15-seat majority at the local elections earlier this month.

The authority is now made up of 21 Labour councillors, five Conservatives and its first Green Party councillor.
