New support network aims to boost Redditch businesses

Redditch Editorial 21st Jan, 2021   0

A NEW support network for local businesses is being launched with the aim of creating a more sustainable community wealth for Redditch.

The Kingfisher Business Network is the brainchild of Redditch Kingfisher Rotary Club, whose members work with both the public and private sectors of their usual charitable project work.

Recognising that many local firms are grappling with the economic and social impacts of the global pandemic, they fear the future for many businesses is hard and uncertain.

Amanda Watkin, business network lead for Redditch Kingfisher Rotary said: “As a local Rotary Club we’re usually out there, working in the community and bringing local business resources together to deliver great charitable projects.

“We’ve continued to do that through the pandemic but it has definitely been harder to achieve what we wanted to.

“Talking to our business contacts, inevitably they have also been experiencing significant difficulties maintaining their usual business activities.

“There are many economic development opportunities on the horizon for Redditch, with significant regeneration and economic development potential, so we really want to use our network and partnership experience to work with local businesses – particularly the small, medium and social enterprises – so that they can really shape and benefit from those opportunities.”

The Kingfisher Business Network is aiming to bring businesses together with other initiatives and resources to ensure the local economy can build more community wealth, develop green and ‘buy local’ supply chains, and sustain success for Redditch in the longer term.

A free virtual business breakfast event will be held on the last Friday of every month at 7.45am, with the first one on January 29.

Speakers include representatives from North Worcestershire Economic Development and Regeneration and Redditch Borough Council, with a chance for participants to ask questions about how local businesses can shape and benefit from economic development plans.
