Redditch's Abbey Stadium gym has undergone a £250,000 revamp with new equipment

PEOPLE wanting to get fitter and healthier in the new year will have the perfect place to start their journey after a £250,000 revamp of the Abbey Stadium Sports Centre gym.

The funding, through a commercial finance agreement, has paid for a substantial refurbishment and brand new fitness equipment from world-leading suppliers.

Rubicon Leisure, the operating company wholly owned by Redditch Borough Council, said the revamp took place during December so the new-look gym would be ready to welcome customers in the new year.

An extensive customer survey earlier this year overwhelmingly highlighted that users’ biggest disappointment was the popular Sports Centre’s ‘tired looking’ gym and fitness equipment which, installed in 2012, was outdated and in frequent need of repair.

The gym, along with associated studios, provides the opportunity for the Redditch community to make exercise a regular part of their life and the team has worked hard to provide a centre and an activity programme to meet needs right across the generations.

Carefully designed with equipment arranged in zones, the gym can be used to develop strength and muscular conditioning, functional exercise to enable bodies to fulfill day-to-day tasks and aid rehabilitation and recovery.

A separate stretch zone is tranquil to allow people’s minds to re-set as well as their bodies.

A team of trained and highly qualified coaches and instructors will provide a holistic approach to wellbeing, supporting and guiding customers to be healthy and happy in 2023.

Rubicon Leisure general manager Scott Brinkworth said: “It’s a privilege to be able to bring this improvement to the people of Redditch.

“The equipment is unique to the area and includes the very latest video content providing customers with the best programmes and their own in-club virtual coach.

“There is something for everyone and we are committed to promoting exercise as the most effective way of enjoying physical, mental, and social good health.”

Rubicon Leisure said it was committed to encouraging the Redditch community to live healthier and happier lives and its innovative approach to exercise was designed to provide affordable access to help people achieve that.

An open day will take place next Saturday, January 7.
