REFUGEES in Redditch and Bromsgrove have thanked the town for the level of welcome and support they continue to receive as they try to build new lives in the community.
The praise comes as Bromsgrove and Redditch Welcome Refugees (BRWR) marks Refugee Week 2024.
The group supports about 200 refugees across the two towns, as well as many asylum seekers.
BRWR Chair, Yvonne Rendell, said Refugee Week was a time when those seeking sanctuary wanted to say thank you.
She said: “Every single one of the people we help, and who have become our friends, are massively grateful for the way they’ve been treated in this town.
“These are people who’ve fled from often unimaginable horrors and the compassion and understanding they’ve received from the people of Redditch and Bromsgrove has helped them come to terms with their experiences and try to create new lives contributing to our communities.”
BRWR is celebrating Refugee Week with an open event at Redditch Library between 11am and 3pm on Saturday, June 29.
The event, A Taste of Home, will be a multicultural celebration including a dance performance by the town’s Ukrainian Youth Dance Troupe, children’s arts and crafts activities and food to try from Ukraine, Syria and Afghanistan.
