CONFIDENCE in policing remains high in Worcestershire as the police and crime commissioner’s new survey asks West Mercia residents how they feel about the force.
Currently, 82 per cent of residents in Worcestershire hold confidence in West Mercia Police which, although is a positive, falls short of the force’s 88 per cent target.
Following the PCC John Campion’s quarterly perceptions survey, 74 per cent of the county’s residents believe the police understand issues in their community.
Satisfaction in levels of policing in Worcestershire goes from the highest in West Mercia at 65% in North Worcestershire to the lowest at 61% in the South of the county.
The contrasting data is also reflected in the public’s view on whether the police is doing an excellent or good job. In North Worcestershire this stands at 66%, the highest in West Mercia, whilst South Worcestershire is the lowest with 61%.
A majority of residents in Worcestershire feel anti-social behaviour and crime are not problems in their area. Remaining the same in North Worcestershire at 73% and falling in South Worcestershire from 78% to 76%.
And More than half of people in North Worcestershire feel informed about the work West Mercia Police is doing, 52%, whilst it’s 49% in South Worcestershire.
John Campion said: “The latest data shows there is some disconnect between the service received in North and the South of Worcestershire.
“Whilst I understand different areas will face different challenges, it’s important the system is working effectively to ensure all communities receive the high-quality service they expect and deserve.
“As the public’s voice in policing, I remain committed to supporting and challenging the Chief Constable as well as providing the funding needed to deliver long-lasting change across West Mercia.”
