Talented two chosen to show art at prestigious Ikon Gallery

TWO Redditch artists are having work exhibited at the first post lockdown exhibition at Birmingham’s famous Ikon Gallery.

Kevin Wills and Mr Zander have each carved a very special niche, so special the Ikon couldn’t resist putting their work on show.

“I was quite shocked when they got in touch – it’s a massive opportunity,” said Kevin, from Oakenshaw.

“They had an open call last year looking for local artists for an exhibition but obviously that didn’t go ahead.

“Then a month ago I had an email saying I had been shortlisted from the hundreds of artists and then a congratulations saying they would like to show one of my pieces.

“A couple of days ago Mr Zander got in touch saying he too had been chosen.”

Kevin, an HGV driver for Jaguar Land Rover, has also had to adapt his style – thanks to the arrival of twins.

“I used to paint with acrylics and canvas but with twins I had to put those away and I thought I’d have a crack at digital art, which is all taking off now.

“It’s been a life long ambition to be chosen to be part of such a great exhibition in such a highly regarded gallery.”

The exhibition, Ikon for Artists, runs from May 17 to May 31 at the Ikon Gallery just off Broad Street at Brinleyplace. Kevin’s work can be found on Facebook at Wills Art World while Mr Zander’s is on Instagram.
