Brakes swoop for Alvechurch defender Kyle Morrison

LEAMINGTON have completed their first piece of business in preparation for the 2020/21 campaign by snapping up Kyle Morrison from Alvechurch.

The 24-year-old Birmingham-based defender has spent the last two seasons with the Worcestershire club in the Southern League Premier Division.

This was Morrison’s second spell there after beginning his career at Lye Meadow as a 16-year-old. He initially spent three years gaining valuable experience in the Midland Alliance and the Midland League.

His performances caught the eye of then Halesowen Town boss John Hill and Morrison switched to the Yeltz where he racked up more than 120 appearances in the Northern Premier League in a three-year period before returning to Alvechurch in 2018 and helping them to the play-off final before captaining the side last season.

Brakes manager Paul Holleran was pleased to have snared another bright young talent from Church after signing forward Josh March last summer and said: “I am delighted to get Kyle on board. He has spent the last few seasons at step three and is a very reliable, robust player.

“He is still young but has played well over 200 games at that level. He reminds me a lot of James Mace when he first came to the football club.

“We are looking forward to working with Kyle. He has displayed all the right attributes but it was his desire to play step two football and for Leamington that impressed me most.”

While predominantly a centre-back, Morrison is also comfortable at right-back and had this to say upon signing for Brakes.

“I’m delighted to have signed and really excited to get started on my new challenge.

“Leamington FC seems like a great football club with good people involved throughout.

“Paul (Holleran) has always had a close bunch of lads with good team spirit and I am looking forward to getting involved!”
