LEE Gill starred with the bat as Tanworth and Camp Hill Cricket Club secured a comfortable seven-wicket win against Long Itchington.

Gill’s impressive knock helped Tanworth to a third successive win in the Cotswold Hills League Premier Division at Whitehall Farm.

The visitors made early inroads as the new-ball pairing of Andy Turnbull (1-22) and Ben Bryant (2-13), combined with a run out from Martin Perfect, reduced the home side to 30-4.

Bryant impressed with the ball, picking up 2-13 from his 10 overs, which included the wicket of home captain Sam Bishop to a snorter caught by Nick Sale behind the stumps.

Tom Perks (64) and Jack Collyer (30) put on 44 runs for the fifth wicket before Tom Smith (2-28) trapped the latter while Mark Brotherton (0) could only direct a low full toss into the safe hands of Fergus Wassell.

Perks kicked on before eventually departing in the final over as the home side closed on 158 all out with Joe Kelso (2-20) and Wassell (2-42) taking two wickets apiece.

In reply, TACH put on 29 runs before losing their first wicket as Perfect (7) fell to the bowling of James Pelter (1-30).

However, fellow opener Gill (68) batted aggressively and survived a couple of half-chances before a run out saw Ben Bryant (19) depart.

Gill was eventually caught at mid-off by Luke Brotherton off the bowling of Bishop (1-39) as Smith (27 not out) and Andy Turnbull (13 not out) calmly scored the remaining runs with 10 overs to spare.

Tanworth and Camp Hill are next in action against Kineton CC on Saturday, June 1 at Bridge Street.
