SPORTING Club Inkberrow are belatedly celebrating a first-ever promotion to Step Five.

Inkberrow suffered play-off final heartbreak against Malmesbury Victoria last season and looked set for another season at Step Six.

However, after the late withdrawal of Hereford Lads Club, Inkberrow will now play in the Hellenic League Premier Division next season.

Inkberrow manager Neil Guy said: “This is an amazing achievement for the club and result of a huge amount of work by current and past players, coaches, board members, volunteers, supporters  and all our incredible generous sponsors.”

The club are now busy preparing for the new season with ground improvements taking place while Sporting also plan to strengthen the playing squad.

Inkberrow will also enter the FA Cup and FA Vase next season in a meteoric rise for the club with Sporting playing in the Herefordshire Premier League only a couple of seasons ago.

The Hellenic League Premier consists of 20 teams including: Brimscombe and Thrupp, Cirencester Town, Corsham Town, Fairford Town, Hartpury University, Hereford Pegasus, Highworth Town, Longlevens, Lydney Town, Malmesbury Victoria, Mangotsfield United, Pershore Town, Roman Glass St George, Royal Wootton Bassett Town, Slimbridge, Thornbury Town, Tuffley Rovers, Westfields and Worcester Raiders.

The new season begins on Saturday, July 27.
