Inkberrow revel in cup glory

THERE was delight for Inkberrow as they won the Worcestershire FA Junior Cup with a fine 1-0 victory over Fairfield Villa in last Thursday’s final at Bromsgrove Sporting.

It was a hard fought game in which there were midfield challenges aplenty but, once Inkberrow settled down, their passing improved and they more than matched their more fancied opposition who had enjoyed a free-scoring run to the final.

Clearcut chances were very hard to come by throughout the contest but, in the second half, Inkberrow’s passing caused mistakes from Fairfield which led to several dead ball opportunities for Inkberrow.

The key moment arrived when a Villa player was adjudged to have handled the ball in the area and Nick Gregson-Jones converted the penalty with aplomb.

Fairfield then threw everything at Inkberrow and had opportunities to equalise, but Inkberrow’s stubborn defensive unit held out to secure an impressive win.

Inkberrow finished mid-table in Midland Football League Division Three, whilst Fairfield ended third in the division above.
