Jack the lad raring to go

JACK Thomas reckons his self-belief has returned since signing for Birmingham.

The Norfolk-born racer, who turned 21 last weekend, sat out the second half of last season, with confidence issues among the main reasons for doing so.

However, the lockdown period, despite still working, has given him extra time to reflect on both the high points and low points of his career so far.

“I’ve been watching several races lately, good ones and bad, to see where I’ve gone wrong and where I can improve,” Thomas told.

“I think watching your races back is one of the best things you can do as you can see where things went wrong and you can also see what worked for you and other riders too.

“But watching some of them back lately and seeing some of the races I’ve won, it does give me a lot of confidence and self-belief.

“I also saw a post on social media saying it was two years since I won the British Under-21 Semi-Final at Birmingham and that reminded me what a meeting that was for myself.

“It was one meeting I’d really been looking forward to because it meant family could be there. I was riding for Glasgow that year so they couldn’t get to many.

“So that was nice and I felt very confident as Perry Barr is one of my favourite tracks.

“I can still remember now that it came down to one race and I knew if I won that then I would win the whole meeting.

“I did it and it was an amazing feeling and it gave me so much confidence at the time.

“So seeing that come up reminded me what I am actually capable of.

“I just can’t wait to get back doing what I enjoy and I can’t wait to be riding for the Brummies rather than against them.”
