THE Redditch Eastern Gateway project has received a £1.8 million of funding boost from Worcestershire Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP).

The money for the ‘game changer’ scheme was procured by the Gorcott Trust and the Homes & Communities Agency (HCA), and will be used by development partner Stoford to support the planning, infrastructure design and construction process at the 70 acre (29 hectare) employment site in Worcestershire.

The firm is due to submit a planning application for the first phase of development to Stratford District Council in September this year and works could begin as early as summer 2016.

Redditch Eastern Gateway will deliver more than one million sq ft (92,900 sq m) of new office and industrial space, creating up to 1,500 jobs. It is strategically located close to the M40 and M42, with a drive time of just 20 minutes to Birmingham International Airport and railway station.

Jon Andrews, director at Stoford, said: “This funding is a tremendous boost for the scheme and demonstrates the commitment of all stakeholders involved in the project.”

Christine Addison, executive director for the Midlands at the HCA, added: “We have worked collaboratively with the Gorcott Trust and the Local Enterprise Partnership to open this land up for development.

“The appointment of the developer was an important step towards creating a high quality site at Redditch Gateway that will significantly increase the town’s ability to attract inward investment.”
