THE sun and the crowds came out to enjoy another successful Studley flower show raising over £1,100 for local charities in the process.
It represents a remarkable turnaround for an event which, previously based at Studley Fire Station, was in danger of folding when that building closed in 2012.
However thanks to dedicated drive by a strong committee who got all the businesses in the village involved, it has been born again at its new home at Studley Entaco.
“I’d been involved with the flower show for 40 years and didn’t want to see it disappear,” said organiser Des Crow.
“I struggled last year to keep it going but this year it’s back and we’ve got everyone helping us, which is great because all the money we raise from the auction goes back into local charities.”
He singled out his own cohort of helpers as well as the Studley in Bloom team and the Studley Christmas Lights group who both leant a hand.
“We went all the businesses in the village for raffle prizes and I think this year we’ve got more exhibits than ever,” said Mr Crow.
In all there were 70 classes contested with Chris Millinchip scooping three trophies, Mary Taylor two, and John Daffin, Alan Kale and Karen Mills winning one each.
Sharon Jauncy won the cup for best cake and already there are plans afoot for next year’s event.
