KIND hearted Redditch residents donated more than 40 bags of clothes and toys in just three hours for desperate refugees fleeing war and persecution.
The charity collection, held at The Bridge, brought people from far and wide to the Headless Cross church and the hope is now to make it a monthly event as the plight of the refugees continues.
“Most of the people who came had seen the article in the Redditch Standard and for me it shows that people really do care about what’s going on and that we are an outward looking,” said church community and outreach lay worker Maureen Brown.
The day was organised by local campaigner Sue Yeng who teamed up with the not-for-profit organisation People in Motion and the Bromsgrove Refugee Fund.
The donations were picked up and transferred to a sorting office in Malvern, before being taken across the Channel to the people stuck in the refugee camps at Dunkirk and Calais.
