A BOROUGH singer will be taking to the stage at one of the summer’s biggest festivals this weekend.
Lucy May Walker will be performing at Wireless Festival which takes place in London and Birmingham between today and Sunday (July 4 to 6), along with acts such as Kanye West, Bruno Mars and Pharrell Williams. The 22-year-old was picked to play the Birmingham bill after winning a competition with Free Radio.
She was one of 28 selected and made it down to the final 12 after getting fans and new listeners to vote for her online.
The unsigned artist (pictured) will be performing an acoustic set of cover songs and originals with her guitarist Olly Vert on the Free Radio Stage, at Perry Park from 3.20pm on Friday (July 4).
She will also play on the Forum Live Stage at the LG Arena on Sunday (July 6) before Robbie Williams’ show on the main stage.
The Webheath resident recently played to fans at a Gary Barlow concert in April.
She said: “When Adam Wilbourn [Free Radio] called me I was really confused because I was told that if you got through he would call live during his show. So when he called me a few hours before, I didn’t know what to think.
“He did a classic X Factor, ‘I’m really sorry to say this, but you’re going to have to clear your diary for July,’ then I went a bit crazy screaming down the phone, probably not the most professional I’ve ever sounded but it was hard to contain my excitement.
“This is the first festival I am ever playing at and to be on the same line up as people like Ellie Goulding, Kanye West, Bruno Mars, John Newman and Labrinth is just incredible.
“I can’t believe the success I am getting and I am only just starting. If this is a glimpse of what the future holds then I am really excited for what’s next.”
