Brave dad taking plunge in daughter’s memory

A BRAVE Church Hill dad will take a leap of faith – literally – later this month in memory of his daughter.

Sam Walsh will complete a tandem skydive on September 27 to raise funds for the Primrose Hospice which helped his family following the death of their beloved seven-month-old daughter, Madisson.

“They helped us when we needed it,” said Sam. “So we are raising money for them to ensure they can carry on with their good work.”

Sam and his wife Tammy lost baby Madisson to a cancerous tumour in 2009.

“We fought it for the longest and hardest months of our lives,” said Sam. “But it was not to be and she went to the angels.”

During Madisson’s illness Sam and Tammy spent the first four to six weeks sleeping on a single fold-out bed at Birmingham Children’s Hospital before they were approached by the Primrose Hospice and Macmillan.

Sam added: “They were great. They put us in a hotel right next to the hospital and helped us with food and transport – now I want to be able to give something back to both of them.”

The 33-year-old said he is not feeling nervous about his jump just yet as he has always wanted to do a skydive but thinks it may be a different story once he gets in the plane.

“Everyone keeps asking me if I’m scared but I guess as it’s a tandem jump I’ll just get shoved out with the instructor anyway!”

The couple’s Just Giving page currently shows a total of £1,325 – smashing their £600 target and Sam himself has promised to add a futher £200 to the total.
