Call for dog baths to be installed at Worcestershire's country parks

CALLS have been made for dog baths to be installed at country parks across the county so owners’ four-legged friends can be nice and clean after their stroll in the great outdoors, writes Hayley Muckle.

County Councillor Peter McDonald (Lab, Beacon) said the baths were popular in other parts of the country and was now calling on Worcestershire to set up similar arrangements.

“This would be good news for dog owners when they are returning from walking their dogs on the hills to be able to ensure their dogs return home clean and healthy.

“The dog bath would be a convenient way of helping to keep your dog clean and free of dirt and parasites.”

But a Worcestershire County Council spokesperson said: “Unfortunately, due to the high cost of purchase and maintenance and other issues including lack of use of these machines elsewhere, provision of dog bath machines at our country parks is not a viable option.

“Taps are already available on site which allow dog walkers to wash their pets free of charge and many visitors also use small hand pump sprayers.”

The authority pointed out that each dog bath would cost £20,000 and in most areas dog owners are requested to pay.
