Health chiefs hit back over Redditch sell-off

Redditch Editorial 12th Aug, 2016 Updated: 18th Oct, 2016   0

HEALTH chiefs have rejected claims made by a Studley doctor that they would be ‘scoring brownie points’ by selling off Studley Medical Centre.

The accusation was made by Dr Margaret Buckley at last week’s parish council meeting following news that the centre could face closure after all three doctors at the surgery gave six months’ notice that they’d be terminating their contracts.

However, a spokesperson for South Warwickshire Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) said they didn’t own the building and wouldn’t benefit from its sale – the premises are in fact owned by NHS Property Services.

The CCG is currently facing two options in Studley – of finding another provider or company to run GP services from the site or ‘dispersing’ its patients to other nearby practices. The practice is the smallest in south Warwickshire with an estimated 2,000 patients.

Following complaints made at the parish council meeting and a visit from district councillor Hazel Wright and county councillor Clive Ricketts, the CCG has also added a second public consultation date in addition to the one held yesterday (August 11).

This will be at 6.30pm on Monday, August 15 at the Parish Centre in Needle Close.

Residents and patients can also make their views known by post to NHS South Warwickshire CCG, Westgate House, Warwick, CV34 4DE, via email at [email protected], or online at www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/YWZMTMF.

Coun Wright said: “After our meeting I had a clearer understanding of the situation and the processes involved.

“As a former nurse I think the relationship between doctor and patient is of paramount importance and should be recognised.

“I would urge as many patients as possible to take advantage of the consultations and let people know how they feel.”
